Appropriately international: Düsseldorf Airport is the third largest in Germany and North Rhine-Westphalia’s no. 1 air transport hub. When the airport authority needed new premises that would reflect its economic standing, sop | architekten designed a centrally located building on Flughafenstraße situated on the same sight line as the eye-catching Hotel Maritim. Its architecture impresses through its timelessly elegant forms and materials, which include a combination of high-quality metal and transparent glass façade.

In architectural terms, the design flows from and clearly illustrates the building’s interior functions. A spacious interior courtyard lies at the core of the structure, while the ground floor boasts a prestigious foyer with open atrium and a casino with outdoor seating. Holder of DGNB Platinum Certification, the building also meets all current sustainability standards. By contrast, it shuns unnecessary superficial effects and inappropriate references to flying and aircraft.
